The DMV sucks everywhere.
So on Friday I had to go register the car and get a California drivers license. They are sticklers here in Cali about having cars drive around that don’t meet emissions standards, thus they have this 20 day rule where you need to get your car registered within 20 days of moving here. As I was going in on the 29th, I was already over that amount and didn’t know what to expect.
Thursday Danielle had gotten a job offer that she planned to accept so we were up kind of late celebrating and thus I didn’t get a chance to do all the stuff I needed to for the DMV the night before. After I got up, and did some studying, I found that I didn’t have the correct form filled out, and that I didn’t have a smog check certification done. As I read all this, I hope I can run and get it all done before the appointment. I say bye to Danielle, and run off to my car.
In my haste to back out and on my way to find a smog check center, I destroy my driver side mirror on the post next to my car. (Insert swear words here)

UGGHH! Can I even get my vehicle registered now with a bad mirror? Is it legal to drive?
I speed on to the DMV center, not wanting to miss my appointment, hopefully I can do everything and get the forms and smog check mailed to them to finalize.
I find the DMV easily enough, get a parking spot right up front, run in and stand in the line with 1 person in it. Things are looking good.
First question: Do you have your passport?
(Insert more colorful words)
I had run out so fast, I forgot my passport. I can’t get a drivers license, I can’t get the car registered, I can’t do JACK. Ugh. I had 30 minutes till my appointment (I was really early) so I hoped to go home and grab my passport, while getting back in time, but by the time I got home it was 5 till my appointment so I just went to work.
Yesterday (Saturday) I went out to the Acura Dealership to get a new mirror. The official price of my haste and stupidity? 240 dollars.
Groan!
